Lavender is a Mediterranean plant that flowers in summer, starting in June. It is a fragrant perennial plant with lanceolate leaves and an inflorescence with several blue flowers grouped together to form a kind of spike.
It originates from the west of the Mediterranean basin and inhabits calcareous, dry, poor and sunny soils, so that it can flourish intensely in the mountains of the Catalan Principality and the northern half of the Valencian Country.
Uses of lavender:
• Medicinal: Traditionally, an infusion of flowers is used as a tranquilizer or sleep-inducing agent, as well as a digestive aid. It is a natural sedative for the central nervous system, making it a good analgesic.
• Perfumery: essential oil from lavender and various perfumes and colognes are obtained from it. It is also used to perfume clothes by making a cone with the grouped leaves.
• Lavender monofloral honey
• Mosquito repellent, however it attracts butterflies.
