Furvus is a wine made under the protection of the DO Montsant. The winery where it is made, Vinyes Domenech, was founded in 2002 by the Domènech-Nogueroles family with the idea of transmitting the landscape and biodiversity of the environment through its products. Furvus is the concentration of Montsant interpreted with elegance: the red fruit loved by the sun, the spell of caressing a garden of medicinal herbs and an intimate precision in touch. Tasting note:

This wine is of a brilliant cherry color. On the nose, the aromatic impact is practically immediate. It is a sweet wine that combines a minerality on the nose with the aromas of red fruits, blueberries and plums. The tannins are present but in a soft way. On the palate it is creamy, probably thanks to the hairy Grenache combined with the smoothness that characterizes Merlot. Leaves an aftertaste with confronting notes and mineral touches.

Operating temperature: 16ºC – 18ºC.

Viticulture: ecological and certified by the CCPAE and Biodinámica

Geology and soil: clay-calcareous soil, shallow and low in organic matter.

Crafting: It is made with spontaneous yeast and the vinification of each terrace is carried out separately in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the red wine Furvus rests for 12 months in French oak barrels before being bottled.

Founded in 2002 by the Domenech-Nogueroles family with the aim of conserving and improving the natural heritage of the estate, creating a wine project that expresses the landscape and biodiversity of the environment, becoming a unique ecosystem.
In 2015, the result of all this work was consolidated to receive the recognition of "Qualified Estate Wine" by Incavi and DO Montsant. It is a recognition that distinguishes the unique and climatic characteristics of the vineyard, the grape wines of the same property with lower yields and that have the most demanding protocols and scores by
part of the DO, as well as national and international prestige for more than ten years.

THE TERROIR

Vinyes Domènech is located in a protected natural space of great beauty between the Sierra de Llaberia and Montalt, south of Priorat and within the DO Montsant.

Over the years they have incorporated vineyards from the best places in the DO Montsant Capçanes, La Figuera, El Masroig,..., always looking for the highest areas, old vines and soils that give each wine personality and typicality. In short, unique vineyards with very little production where Garnachas and Cariñena give them their maximum expression.

DO Montsant

In the DO Montsant, everything from large cooperatives to family initiatives coexist, as well as private wineries of various sizes and producers who make wines from their own vineyards using the facilities of other wineries.

Although the DO Montsant included 28 wineries when it was created, now there are more than 50 wineries that coexist. Despite the structural differences between one and the other, they all share the same objective: to produce quality wines that speak of this land.

DO Montsant wines are the result of a centuries-old tradition and current academic knowledge. Artisan products in which the hand of man intervenes throughout the production process, a process that is the result of an inalienable balance between the field and the winery.

Varieties of grapes

The DO Montsant vineyards are planted between 50 meters above sea level in the lowest areas, and 700 meters in the highest areas.

Among the grape varieties authorized by the DO Montsant, 4 stand out that can be considered historical and predominant. In the case of the whites, it is Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo, and in the case of reds, Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena, which represent more than 65% of the Montsant vineyards.

These historical and autochthonous varieties are the ones that best adapt to the territory and those that give DO Montsant its uniqueness within the world wine scene

In addition to these historical varieties, in the DO Montsant we can find wines made with chardonnay, muscatel, pansal, parellada, cabernet sauvignon, garnacha peluda, merlot, monastrell, red picapoll, syrah and tempranillo.

Garnacha and cariñena, the essence of Montsant

Red garnacha

Variety well adapted to heat and drought. With a very sensual aromatic profile, it produces wines of great complexity and well structured. The notes of citrus fruits with a background of balsamic and spices are typical of red Garnacha. On the other hand, due to the high concentrations of sugars in overripening and its oxidative capacity, red Garnacha is used in the production of generous wines.

Carignan

It is a relatively productive variety that requires sun exposure to mature properly. Cariñena wines have accentuated pigmentation and are aromatically very intense and of moderate degree, while enjoying excellent acidity. On the palate they are slightly astringent and very elegant.

White garnacha

Variety well adapted to warm climates, with very juicy and aromatic fruit, from which white wines with personality and great taste capacity are extracted. White Garnacha wines have good acidity and balance, whether they are young or aged in barrels. The aromas of honey and undergrowth and the silkiness on the palate are typical of white Garnacha.

Macabeo

Variety of large, thin-skinned, golden-yellow grapes. Good maturation and sugar concentration. It produces dry, fresh and balanced wines. The fruity aromas of apple and white fruits are characteristic of macabeu. They are consumed young and, in many cases, they are used to make coupages with white Garnacha.

Red Wine

They are the most common in the DO Montsant, because, by tradition, these lands have always been lands of red wines. More than 90% of the grape production corresponds to red varieties, among which Garnacha and Cariñena stand out for being the ones that best adapt to the conditions of the DO and the ones that best convey its identity. Both give full-bodied wines, very suitable for aging. Red Garnacha has a very sensual aromatic profile, highly complex, and produces well-structured wines. For its part, the Cariñena is aromatically very intense and produces wines of moderate degree and with very good acidity.

Los Blancos

They are made almost exclusively with the two traditional varieties of the area: Garnacha Banca, with more body and structure, and Macabeo, which produces finer wines. Both are distinguished by their silkiness, structure and elegant and subtle aromas.

Rosé

Rosé wines have been gaining presence over the years. They are intense on the nose and silky on the palate, and stand out for their fruity aromas.

Generous

They are wines with a long tradition in this territory. In the past, when the wineries were family owned, it was common to have a barrel for rancid wine and another for sweet wine. Currently, the production of traditional liqueur wines is much more systematized but without losing space in the entire production. In addition, sweet, rancid and mistelas have recently recovered their prestige as a gourmet product.

The Vinyes Domenech winery is synonymous with the search for perfection through simplicity, but which in turn makes it something very unique. They do not understand the making of a wine without taking care of the whole environment as the most important thing.
